Kyiv state aviation plant «Àviant» established on September 9, 1920 by decree of Military Industry Council ¹ 15178 under name “State
aviation plant ¹ 12 (SAP-12)”. It was founded on the base
of small repair
shops apart and was situated before war on Harmatna Street.
First director (manager) of plant and, actually,
its organizer was professor Viktorin F. Bobrov (further – rector of Kyiv
polytechnician and Moscow
aviation institutes).
Plant performed repair of aircraft of foreign types being on army’s service. Plant did
not have own airfield, so tests of aircraft performed on Post-Volyn airfield (Zhuliany).
In 1922 plant was renamed for «ÐÅÌÂÎÇÄÓÕ-6» (“Rem-Air-6”).
In 1925 under leadership of designer Ê.À. Kalinin was designed and manufactured
first in country 4-place
local passenger aircraft

to self-sacrificing work of plant employees (all works performed on overtime and holydays) on June 26, 1925 aircraft Ê-1 flew to the sky
In 1924 plant was fully electrifed; was mounted
steam heating in assembly shop
In 1927-1929 being repairing already domestic types aircraft
R-1 and R-5, plant employees designed and manufactured glider «Ãðèô»/”Gryph” (“Vulture”) which won
first place on All-union competitions of gliders in Koktebel.
In 1931 plant was remaned in «Plant ¹ 43».
In 1932 on plant was produced furst in country autogyr «4-ÝÀ» ÖÀÃÈ.
In 1932-1934 on plant was put into serial production first domestic speedy six-place passenger aircraft ÕÀÈ-1 designed by professor I.H. Neman. Aircraft
ÕÀÈ-1 had speed 324 km/h,
ceiling 7000 m, range more than 1000 km, payload
up to1000 kg. ÕÀÈ-1 became first in Europe passenger aircraft
with retracting landing gear.
Maiden flight of aircraft ÕÀÈ-1 took place on October 8, 1932,
plant produced total 43 such aircraft
In 1937 was produced, and in 1938 successfully
tested passenger aircraft ÎÊÎ-1 designed by V.K. Tairov.
In 1939-1941 plant produced units for
aircraft «MiG».
On June 22, 1941 USSR entered in World War II; on June 25, 1941 plant was bombed out. 38
men died, 78 were wounded, much of important
equipment was destroyed.
Plant was evacuated to Novosibirsk where on plant named after
V.P. Chkalov fighters Yak-3, Yak-9 designed by A.S. Yakovlev produced.
After releasing “ on
November 6, 1943 of Kyiv from fascists plant came back from evacuation and
till the end of war performed repair of aircraft ÏÎ-2 and assembly of aircraft Yak-3, Yak-9 of
aggregates sent from other plants.
In 1944 plant was renamed in «Plant ¹ 473» or «Organization mailbox ¹ 11»
After the end of World War II plant finally had its present place (Sviatoshyn) which development
began before the war.
In 1945-1946 plant had been working on producing of specimen of helicopter Ã-4 designed by I.P. Bratulhin. During tests significant misculculations in design were found, and helicopter wasn’t put into
serial production.
