An-32P Aircraft FirekillerAN-32P - one of modifications of transport aircraft AN-32 producing by Kyiv State Aviation Plant “AVIANT”, aimed for extinguishing forest fires. Thanks to its high flight performances Ukrainian AN-32P operating with success in conditions of hot tropical climate, in high mountains conditions, in hard-accessed areas, performing takeoffs and landings on unpaved, pebble and snow airfields. Aircraft AN-32 has a great reliability, high thrust-weight ratio and self-contain in operation. On aircraft installs two modified turboprop engines ÀÈ -20 Ä series 5.

Carrying out functions of protection of forest aircraft An-32P provides performing of following operations:

  • extinguishing of forest fires by pouring out fire-extinguishing liquids;
  • delivery and paradropping parachutists-firemen, special equipment and cargoes to the places of forest fires;
  • transferring fire fighting equipment between fire areas;
  • localization of spots of oil in the sea;
  • suppression of technogenic fires.

For extinguishing of forest fires by pouring out fire-extinguishing liquids on aircrafts installs two outer pouring units (OPU). Each OPU has two autonomous sections. Pouring out liquid makes by means of opening the door in lower part all over the length of sections.

OPU liquid servicing makes on the ground through four standard fire throats ÃÌ -70 from mobile ground servicing sources and refueller-tanks in 10-15 min.

Pouring out of liquid controls by navigator-operator from his work position. Commander has opportunity to make emergency pouring out of liquid.

Pouring out liquid makes at speeds 217-230 km/h.

Normal height of pouring – 40 m above the forest. Provided volley (8t) and consistent (by 4 t) pouring of liquid. Poured fire-extinguishing liquid covers almost 2000 m of fire area. Aiming performing by sight ÍÊÏÁ -7.

Calculations for patrol operation shows that in light-day one aircraft AN-32, at distancing patrol area from base airfield in 50, 100 and 150 km can operate from 9 to 17.5 hectares of forest.

Extinguishing of forest fires expediently make by group of few aircraft (most optimal is using of 3-5 aircraft).

For period without fires provided opportunity of conversion aircraft in airfield conditions in transport version for transportation of cargoes.

 

For carrying out of transportation operations aircraft has:

  • big cargo door in tail section of fuselage, closing by ramp, which can go down to ground and serve as a entrance stairs, or move forward under fuselage, what provides fast loading of aircraft on ground from moving platforms and comfort at paradropping of cargoes and people;
  • upper cargo handling device with lifting capacity 3000 kg;
  • removable roller track equipment with locking beams, providing transportation of cargoes on trays.

Dimensions of cargo compartment (66 s.m.) and cargo door allow transportation of large-dimension cargoes, self-propelled wheeled and wheeled non-self-propelled vehicles with weight up to 6.7 T.

Great advantage of aircraft AN-32P is tightness not only crew cockpit, but also cargo compartment, provided at that with air conditioning system. It makes possible using of aircraft for transportation people (delivery parachutists-firemen to the places of rise fires, evacuation of wounded etc.)

Aircraft can be used for paradropping in fire area parachutists-firemen (27 p.), also dropping up to 10 packing of fire fighting equipment – each for 100 kg. Paradropping makes through back cargo door with static parachute deployment by means of special system.

Aircraft can deliver to base airfield in forest fires area mobile servicing stations; for that in cargo compartment provided cargo handling devices with lifting capacity up to 3000 kg. Cargo handling devices allow to carry out rolling-up transport devices in cargo compartment through deflected ramp of cargo door or load at rolled under fuselage ramp wheelless vehicles, other cargoes total weight up to 6,7 t. Aircraft can carry out flights between territorial bases of forest patrol.

 

Aircraft AN-32P has following main peculiarities:

  • high reliability of airframe and systems, safety of operation, checked during long period of operation of base aircraft AN-32
  • possibility of operation on unpaved airfields, thanks to structure of landing gear with low-pressure tire, high location of engines, what exclude hit of outside objects in air intakes
  • highest, comparing with world analogues, thrust-weight ratio. This peculiarity allows to carry out flights with steep paths what especially important during operation in mountain regions and extinguishing sheer forest fires. In this case aircraft can leave the area of high turbulence, characteristic for forest fires area, in minimal time. Besides, in case of failure of one of engines power reserve of operating engine allow aircraft safety return to the base.
  • self-contain of operation with possibility of engine starting from APU.
  • possibility of performing flights in adverse weather conditions in different world regions at air temperature up to 45 C and height of airfield above sea level up to 4500 m.
